Welcome to the Institute of English Language and Speech. This institute deals with specifications for speech and allied subjects including Performance Arts. IELS qualifications are specially designed for candidates who wish to pursue on developing speech, performance and delivering a variety of forms that encompass Speech and Drama, Acting, News Reading, Performing Extracts from plays in a range of styles and mastery of performance.
IELS simply makes available the range of content of syllabi enabling the facilitating trainer, and the learning candidates to collaborate and select an exam of their choice. This leads to the well-focused preparation for exams in the interest of candidate’s performance.
IELS Examinations focus on preparing the candidates to perform on stage any selected item while developing their creative skills via simulations in a wide array of real-life situations. In the process, the candidates nurture themselves to take up employment and become experts in their own areas of interest.
Our vision is to see the performers produced by IELS leading as independent individuals contributing to the empowerment of informed decision making in favour of environmental integrity and economic viability of a just society for present and future generations.
IELS mission is to produce performers who are able to incorporate the sustainable educational goals in line with the social, ethnic, and diverse cultures contributing to the total personality development of the individual.

Mrs. FF Nizam

Mrs FF Nizam started her career teaching English in 1958 as an assistant teacher at a government school in the Galle district. With time and progress, she sat the various exams connected to improving her teaching qualifications, becoming a first class trained teacher of English.
From then onwards, Mrs Nizam worked at a multitude of institutes, and in a variety of capacities, including, but not limited to, a Charity Organiser at the International Community School in Amman, Jordan; the Head of Primary at Sudan Oxford Academy in Khartoum, Sudan; and a Teacher of English at a government school in the Sultanate of Oman. Most notably, she was an Instructor of English at the University of Ruhuna for 22 years, and served as the Principal of Brilliant Stars International College Matara, a precursor to Iels where she continues to serve to date as a Fellow of the IELS Examinations Board.
With 52 years of experience in the field of education and being happily retired, Mrs Nizam is pleased to serve as a Patron of IELS.
Deshamanya Hunniya Wazeer

Deshamanya Mrs. Hunniya Wazeer is the Executive Founder Director of the Institute of English Language and Speech, IELS Examinations Sri Lanka. She is also the Founder Directress of Brilliant Stars International College and its subsidiaries, Brilliant Stars English Academy, Sri Lanka, and Radiant Educational Services Sri Lanka. Hunniya Wazeer has over twenty-five years of experience as a teacher of Speech and Drama and allied subjects, English Language and Literature, and Educational Management where the medium of instruction is English.
Mrs. Hunniya Wazeer started her career securing the position of Island’s best at the Pre-school education programme offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka, 1996. She read for her first degree English Language and Literature at the University of Jayawardene Pura and her Post Graduate Diploma in Education at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. She read for her Master's Degree in TESL (Teaching of English as a Second Language) at the Open University of Sri Lanka.
She has a Licentiate Teachers’ Diploma and an Associate Teacher’s Diploma in Speech and Drama from the Trinity College of London, UK. She obtained her Gold and Bronze Medals in Speaking of Verse and Prose from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. (LAMDA).
Mrs. Hunniya Wazeer has an excellent track record of having guided thousands of students in helping them obtain a high level of achievement and a hundred percent pass rate in Performing Arts and graded examinations offered by local, and foreign schools and colleges of Speech and Drama such as the Trinity College London and the London Academy of Dramatic Art and the allied subjects.
In addition, Mrs. Hunniya Wazeer manages the Radiant Teacher Training Centre and conducts courses both digital and physical for adults on professional development and skills enhancement where hundreds of individuals have benefited and are currently employed at state-recognized institutions, local as well as overseas.
Mrs. Hunniya Wazeer has presented papers at international conferences and is a contributor to English Language Journals. She won the island’s first place at the language and methodology competition held by Hornby Regional School via the British Council, Sri Lanka, and was entitled to attend the IATEFL Conference held at Brighton, UK, 2003. She has also won many awards including the Fellowship Award and the Millenium Royal Gold Award for Teaching Excellence by the IEMS Examinations Sri Lanka, the Samasiri Deshamnya civil award from the All Communities United Organization, Sri Lanka, and the National Literary Award for the short story “Kinta the Shepherd.”
Mrs. Hunniya Wazeer is the author of many books, including a series of ten graded Examination Practice Books for IELS Examinations, Sri Lanka.
In recognition of the devoted contributions to all ethnic groups in Sri Lanka with an unyielding prowess for equity, significant impacts and appreciable records of achievements in her career, governance, national and international development as well as the contribution to the society at large, and her policy of equality and education for all, Mrs. Hunniya Wazeer was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D. Honoris Causa) by the British American University, Florida, USA.
